The Western Disturbance which was over Jammu and Kashmir is now lying over parts of North Pakistan and its adjoining areas. Its induced Cyclonic Circulation is over North Rajasthan and its adjoining areas. Whenever this combination comes together, the spread, intensity and duration of the weather activity increases. This would be the first heavy pre-Monsoon activity in the hills.

Generally, pre-Monsoon activities are short lived. However, at this point of time, the duration would be a little longer. Weather activity started over the hills yesterday itself, but it is expected to peak towards late evening today. The intensity will start receding  tomorrow onward.

All the three hill states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand would be witnessing weather activities simultaneously, wherein the upper reaches might get to see snowfall as well. As on April 15, Gulmarg and Dharamshala recorded maximum temperatures at 7.5°C and 23.8°C, respectively, which was two degrees below normal.

Weather, particularly rain and snow can play a crucial role in voter turnout during an election day. Jammu and Kashmir is prepping up for the Lok Sabha Elections on April 18. And, with such widespread activities in between there can be some form of hindrance in its preparations. However, experts say that by April 18, the weather would clear up and only isolated pockets may witness some weather activity.
