Widespread Rain Continues to Lash Northeast India

north east rain indiaAfter a gap of almost one week, Northeast India finally received widespread rain in moderate amounts. A cyclonic circulation, which is over Bihar, Jharkhand and adjoining West Bengal has been providing rain in the northeast region.

Also, a cyclonic circulation in the southwest Bay, off Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh coast is pushing moist winds up to Northeast India, giving widespread rain in the region.

In last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Guwahati in Assam received 57 mm of rain. Kailashahar in Tripura observed 50 mm of rain.

Northeast India Rain

East India has also observed a rainy week with most parts of Jharkhand and West Bengal receiving widespread rain in moderate amounts. On May 13, Ranchi, the capital city of Jharkhand received record breaking rainfall of 58 mm, which was the highest 24 hour rainfall since 1959.

The rainy spell in Northeast India is expected to continue for next 2 to 3 days. The maximum and minimum temperatures will also remain under check and may drop down further.
