Widespread rain and snow lash the hills of North India

January 30, 2023 4:58 PM |

The hills of North India have seen fairly widespread rain and snow including Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Rain and snow have been witnessed over parts of Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Manali, Kufri, Narkanda, Chardham etc.

Parts of the hills around 7000 feet observed some snowfall. This was the first spell which was seen across the mountainous states simultaneously. A Western Disturbance is still persisting, rain and snow may continue today, however, the intensity as well as the spread is expected to be lesser than what was seen yesterday which was the peak day.

As the system is gradually moving from west to east, hailstorm may be seen in Uttarakhand more as compared to the other states. From tomorrow, conditions will improve and only extreme northern parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh may be seen.

Another Feeble Western Disturbance will be arriving on February 2 and continue to stay until February 4. This will be confined to higher reaches and lower parts may not see such weather activity.

The month of February sees more frequent Western Disturbances, however, they are of shorter duration with short gaps in between. These systems are mostly mild but are more frequent.
