Many parts of Gujarat have been receiving widespread rain and thundershower activities since the beginning of August. Gujarat has already received around 79% of its annual average rainfall.
During the last 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rains occurred over Saurashtra and Kutch as well as parts of the Gujarat region. In the last 24 hours, Okha recorded 131 mm, Bhuj 64 mm, Ahmedabad 82 mm, Bhavnagar 66 mm, Surat and Vallabh Vidyanagar 41 mm each.
A high alert has been issued as 94 dams are 90 percent filled in Gujarat, while an alert has been sounded for 10 dams which are 80 to 90 percent full.
Heavy to very heavy rains bettered many parts of Gujarat between August 13 and 15. A cyclonic circulation is persisting over Gujarat for last many days. Moderate to heavy showers are expected to continue over many parts of Gujarat until August 23rd.
A fresh low-pressure area is going to develop over the North Bay of Bengal by today evening. It may intensive further and will move in a westerly direction. Around August 22nd this low-pressure area is expected to merge with cyclonic circulation over Gujarat leading to enhanced rain all activities over many parts of Gujarat.
At present, Saurashtra and Kutch is rain surplus of 72%, is the second rainiest meteorological division in the country after Rayalaseema. Rain deficiency of the Gujarat region is also diminishing day by day. By the end of this rain episode, the Gujarat region will also become rain surplus.
