White Christmas likely in Gangtok, rains to follow in other northeast states

December is just nearing its end and the wintry chill over north India including the northeast region of the country is still unfelt.

From last many days, northeast states have been witnessing isolated rains particularly the states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have been under the influence of good rains. As of now, a Western Disturbance has affected the Western Himalayas and is seen moving along the foothills towards the northeastern region of the country.

Moreover, easterly winds are also flowing over Assam and Meghalaya. This could lead to an increase in the intensity and spread of rain over the northeastern states of the country.

Furthermore, fairly widespread rain is also likely over Assam, Meghalaya including Arunachal Pradesh. However, other parts of Northeast India is predicted to witness some isolated showers.

Moreover, as per the weatherman, hilly regions including Gangtok in Sikkim and Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh is also forecast to witness snowfall. Hence, tourists who are planning or are in the hill states of Northeast regions for a holiday weekend are most probably going to witness snow and can enjoy a white Christmas.

Temperatures recorded are also low and shallow to moderate fog or mist is also persisting over northeast state especially, Gangtok. Mercury levels in other parts of the northeast states are also settling at lower levels.
