November is the transition month from Monsoon to winters and this month is supposed to be very pleasant.

November is a month of comforting and mild temperatures. In this month, very little rain and fog are observed which generally cause disruption in normal life. These two weather activities generally set the pace for the winters. On November 12, the lowest minimum of this season was recorded at 11.7 degrees.

The temperatures over Delhi, particularly the minimums are dictated by the weather activities over the hills. As we head towards the fag end of November, the frequency and intensity of Western Disturbance also increase, they also start moving in lower latitudes.

At the start of November, the minimums and maximums hover around 15 degrees and 30 degrees, respectively. While by the end of the month the minimums and maximums are somewhere near 10 degrees and 25 degrees, respectively.

Inter season and Intra season variation is a sight in Delhi in the month of November. In 2018, in November, Delhi didn’t clock any single-digit temperature. The lowest minimum was recorded on November 25 at 10.4 degrees.

While if we compare it to 2017, then on November 20 single-digit temperature of 9.5 degrees was recorded. Practically post this the temperatures remained in single digits only. The lowest minimum was recorded at 7.6 degrees on November 24.

This example is showing large inter-season variability. Drop in the minimum temperature is seen after the passage of Western Disturbances. And, at the time of Western Disturbances, the minimums tend to rise.

We see a drop in mercury after the rain spell is over, the winds pick up pace and cold air sweeps through the plains.

Today morning Safdarjung Observatory recorded a minimum at 12.3 degrees and has seen a significant three-degree drop in the past 24 hours. In the coming 24 hours as well, the minimum is likely to drop further and may even clock at 11 degrees.

However, due to changes in wind direction, the dropping of wind speed will once again lead to a rise in the minimum November 21 onward.

The Western Disturbance reaching the hills on November 20 will largely affect the hills until November 22 and possibly the plains will remain untouched as there will be a change in wind direction over here.

The next Western Disturbance, an intense one, is likely to impact both the hills of North and the northwestern plains. The activities will be a sight from November 25 to November 27.

After the passage of the second system, there is a chance that Delhiites might see temperatures coming down to single digit. In the month of December, more than fifteen days observe the temperature in a single digit as the effect of Western Disturbance lasts longer in the month of December.
