Tamil Nadu and Kerala are likely to have another spell of rain and thundershowers, commencing today and lasting till Sunday. Isolated light weather activity may continue thereafter, more so in the interior parts of these states. Any further significant rains will roll over to April.
Tamil Nadu and Kerala, otherwise contiguous states, but observed different scales of pre monsoon weather activity. Cumulative rainfall over Tamil Nadu is in excess of 40% and Kerala being deficit by similar figure, between 01st and 23rd March 2023. Both the states were highly deficit till 2nd week of March. Frequent activation of Peninsular India trough in the 3rd week, lashed moderate showers, more intensely for the state of Tamil Nadu and Karaikal. Kerala and Mahe also recovered from the huge shortfall of 87% till 2nd week, to shrink the margin to 42%.
Cyclonic circulation is marked over Telangana and Vidarbha. North-South trough is running through this feature , extending from Chhattisgarh to South interior Karnataka. Rain and thundershowers accompanied with lightning and strong winds are likely over the next 3 days, between 24th and 26th March. Weather activity will become lean and sparse in the closing days of March. Revival is likely on 01st April and later.
