Wet Weekend For Delhi: Showers Till Next Midweek

October 7, 2022 1:48 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The national capital seems to be getting besieged with long spell of rain and showers, lasting till middle of next week. Intensity and spread of weather activity may not be large on all the days but moderate spells, interspersed with freak heavy shower remain a chance between 08th and 11th October.

Fleeting rain and drizzle will have extended range between 07th and 12th October.  Though, southwest monsoon has withdrawn officially but the prolonged weather activity is under the influence of monsoon systems developing over Bay of Bengal, clamping monsoon like conditions over north India, including Delhi.

A cyclonic circulation is marked over North Madhya Maharashtra and South Gujarat in the lower levels of the atmosphere. Well marked trough is extending from this feature till Uttrakhand, cutting across East and Northeast Rajasthan, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh.  Small scale cyclonic circulations are embedded across the stretch of this trough. This situation will prevail for another 48hr.

Later, this will be supplemented by another weather system, currently marked over the southern parts. The combined influence will have prolonged wet spell for Delhi/NCR. Light rains were witnessed over many parts of this region, in the past 24 hours. Weather activity will get extended till 12th October. The coverage and strength of wet spell will relatively be more between 08th and 11th October.

Persistent cloud cover and sporadic showers have dropped the mercury levels, both during day and night. These are expected to drop further and remain below the normal. Day temperature may drop as low as about 27-28°C, about 6°C below the normal and night temperature to hover around 20°C, injecting nip in the air.

Weather system will take a recurving track and therefore move very slowly. Total clearance for the national capital can be expected, not before 13th October. Establishing the seasonal anticyclone over Rajasthan, reversing wind pattern over Delhi will dictate the monsoon withdrawal in true sense, from 14th October.
