As on predicted lines, the capital city Chennai received moderate rainfall last night. Rain and thundershowers continue today, as well, with a likely break in the afternoon. Nungambakkam recorded 21mm and Minambakkam 7mm of rainfall, till 8.30 a.m in the morning. The coastline, extending between Karaikal and Chennai received sharp and decent showers, during this period. Active monsoon conditions will continue for nearly one week or even more.
Courtesy, of a cyclonic circulation over central parts of the South Bay of Bengal (BoB), the monsoon activity has resumed over the South Peninsula. The cyclonic circulation is moving westward slowly, but steadily. It may turn into a low-pressure area in the next 48 hours, while it comes closer to the east coast of Sri Lanka and Southwest BoB. An uptick in the weather activity will follow for the region, more so, at the start of next week.
Chennai is likely to have moderate rain and thundershowers today. A break in the weather activity is expected in the afternoon and early evening and resume again at night. Next two days, on 08th & 09th Nov, the pace may slow down a bit. It will pick up when the circulation moves over Sri Lanka and the Gulf of Mannar with the northward extension of trough along the Tamil Nadu coast.
The intensity and spread of weather activity will increase and go on between 11th and 15th Nov 2024. The frequency and duration of showers will increase substantially during this period. The peak of weather activity may be observed between 11th and 12th Nov. Short spells of heavy showers are quite likely during this period. Since the activity is more likely during the evening/night hours, it may trigger difficulties for the commuters.
