Western Himalayas to see active Western Disturbance next week

The northern hills still await the typical winter chill and cold wave conditions as there have not been any in particular. Cold wave conditions in the hills are generally seen when the minimum temperature drops below 0 degrees.

The only place in the hills of North India that has been seeing sub zero continuously has been Srinagar. Even Manali saw sub-zero in the last few days but they were just between 0 and -1 degree.

However, other places like Dalhousie, Shimla, Nainital etc. have still not recorded minimum this low.

This is because an active Western Disturbance has not been there and only mild ones have been affecting the higher hills. Generally, also, it is always the second half of the month of December which sees active Western Disturbances.

This year also, a little before Christmas, we can expect an active Western Disturbance which will give snowfall and rain and these conditions will intensify during that time.
