Western Disturbance To Vacate Mountains Tomorrow, Temperature to Plunge Below Normal

Western disturbance has leaked some more rains across the mountains of North India for the 2nd consecutive day. More rains are likely today, noticeably for Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and the foothills.  Cyclonic circulation of western disturbance,  supported by trough in the medium levels, remains unrelenting and lash Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand for another 24hr.

Famous tourist destinations have received moderate showers and the higher reaches witnessed snow. Chief amounts of rainfall being : Srinagar-14mm, Pahalgam-13mm, Gulmarg-16mm, Qazigund-8mm and Jammu-23.2mm.  Rain and thundershowers continue at all these places today as well.  Valley locations of Poonch, Rajauri, Doda, Badgam, Kupwara, Srinagar, Anantnag and Baramula are expected to have moderate to heavy showers. Foothills of Udhampur, Katra, Kathua, Dharamshala and Dalhousie are likely to have moderate showers during the day.

Western disturbance will move towards Western Himalayas tomorrow. However, the remnants of the system may cause isolated weather activity, mainly over Uttrakhand. General clearance is expected from 22nd October onward, lasting till month end. In between, feeble westerly system will affect mid and high reaches of the mountains on 26th and 27th Oct. Minimum temperature in the foothills and plains of North India are expected to drop below normal  for the next 5-6 days. Pathankot may drop from 19°C to 15°C and Amritsar may also touch 16°C by next mid week . Ambala, Karnal, Yamunanagar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur may also plunge to 15°C during this period.
