Western Disturbance to bring rain and snow in J&K, HP and Uttarakhand

Snowfall is expected at a few places in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the next two to three days. A fresh Western Disturbance (WD) is likely to arrive over the Western Himalayan region to usher in snow in the higher reaches and rain in the plains.

According to our latest weather update, the weather system (WD) lies over Afghanistan and adjoining areas of north Pakistan. It would travel eastward to reach over Jammu & Kashmir during the next 24 hours.

With cloudy sky and precipitation, day temperatures that were above normal by up to 5°C at many places in the region would drop. Maximum temperature in Srinagar on Tuesday rose to 16.4°C, six notches above the normal while, Leh and Gulmarg also recorded above normal maximums at 9.2°C and 6.8°C respectively.

In Himachal Pradesh maximum in capital Shimla was recorded at 16.4°C on Tuesday, four notches above normal while, Kullu recorded the day temperature at 23.2°C, five notches above normal. Temperatures will start falling from Wednesday onwards.

As far as winter rain is concerned, Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh have recorded normal rain and snow while, Uttarakhand has witnessed excessive rain and snow from 1st January till 19th February this year.
