Western Disturbance to bring light rain in North India

December 21, 2013 3:17 PM |

A fresh Western Disturbance, at present in northeast Pakistan and adjoining areas, is expected to reach Jammu & Kashmir by tonight. The system has already started affecting weather in terms of clouding and snowfall in the higher reaches. This Western Disturbance is good enough to affect weather conditions in the lower hills and the northern plains as well. In view of the system, a low level cyclonic circulation is affecting the normal wind pattern in the plains.

Scattered clouds hovering over Punjab, Haryana and Delhi is likely to become dense and bring light rain in few places. As predicted by Skymet Weather, North India will receive the first winter rain due to this fairly good Western Disturbance. It will also clear out fog in North India and bring down minimum temperatures. Minimums in the plains are about 3 to 4 degrees above normal at present. However, this fresh Western Disturbance will bring down the minimums below normal after 24 hours.

Successive days of widespread fog in North India has reduced day temperatures significantly. The cold winds from the northern plains gradually engulfed entire Rajasthan on Friday and travelled to central India today morning. Fog has ebbed in the northern plains but the envelop of thick fog now lies over parts of Madhya Pradesh, including Bhopal and Gwalior. The day temperatures are likely to come down to low ptwenties in this region.

Foggy weather continues to prevail in Rajasthan. Visibility conditions hardly showed any improvement with Jaipur at 700 meters while Jodhpur remained nil. However, day temperatures showed significant increase. Maximum temperature increased in Ganganagar from 11.9⁰C on Thursday to 21⁰C yesterday. Bikaner still experienced a ‘cold day’ at 16⁰C.
