A fairly clear weather, free of fog, was observed in most parts of the country on Tuesday morning. The national capital Delhi, that witnessed fog on Monday also observed a clear weather. The visibility at the Palam airport at 7 am was recorded at 800 meters. The remaining parts of the capital were also fog free.
Chandigarh in Punjab too observed fair weather conditions early in the morning today as fog was shallow with visibility of 600 meters. Due to the Western Disturbance in Jammu and Kashmir, no other parts of North India experienced very dense fog. Light winds due to the system helped in keeping foggy conditions at bay in the region.
The system has also pushed up the night temperatures. For instance, the Palam Observatory in Delhi saw the minimum temperature settle at 11 degrees Celsius at 6.30 am on Tuesday, which is 2-3 degrees above the monthly average.
Parts of central, east and Northeast India observed fog. Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh was the worst hit with visibility in the city dropping to nil due to very dense fog. Guwahati in Northeast India was another place where dense fog was experienced with visibility recording 100 meters. The situation in Gorakhpur, pocket of frequent fog, was better with visibility settling at 600 meters.
Meanwhile, 9 flights were reported to be cancelled in Delhi, while the arrival and departure of 19 flights were delayed. Rail traffic was also hit hard with Purvottar express running late by 14 hrs. Northeast express is 21 hrs late, Purushottam 15 hours, Sachkhand express 17 hrs, Darbhanga Sampark Kranti express 3 hrs and Magadh express 6 hours.
