Rains have been evading Jammu and Kashmir for a long time now. The hilly state has seen only light Monsoon rains in the absence of any significant weather system over the region.
However, good rains have made a comeback over the state with an active Western Disturbance affecting the hilly region. The system is presently marked over Jammu and Kashmir and is moving at a very slow pace in east direction.
According to Skymet Weather, the Western Disturbance has given fairly widespread heavy showers over most parts of the state. Jammu recorded the highest rainfall of 109 mm of rain in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, followed by Katra at 71.2 mm.
Further, the system is likely to stay over the state that will continue to give more moderate to heavy rains over the state for the next 24 to 48 hours. Rains will reduce thereafter, as system will clear away from the region.
Jammu and Kashmir has been rain deficit so far in the Monsoon season and as on July 26, the cumulative rain deficiency stands at 21%. With more rains in offing, we expect state to cover the deficiency soon.
Following are the rainfall figures recorded across the state during the last 24 hours.
