Western Disturbance begins to affect Jammu and Kashmir

With light to moderate overnight rain, fresh western disturbance has started to affect several parts of Jammu and Kashmir. In next two days, the rains are expected to influence the weather in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and plains of North India.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, thunderstorms, squally winds and hail will occur at a few places in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and west Uttar Pradesh. Rain in parts of Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal is likely to commence tomorrow onwards.

Places that have received rain in J&K in last 24 hours include Gulmarg with 32 mm of rain, Kokernag 6 mm, Kupwara 31 mm, Pahalgam 12 mm, and Srinagar 14 mm of rain.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the weather activity is expected to shift eastwards along the foothills and give moderate rainfall in Nepal as well, stalling the rescue operation, post the recent earthquake, further.

Affect on Temperature

Due to continuous rain in Jammu and Kashmir, several parts of the state are going to observe a gradual dip in day temperature. The WD has already started to influence Delhi weather as day temperature has been settling in mid-30s for past few days.

Further crop damage

The rain that is currently affecting hilly states is expected to give light to moderate rain in plains of North India that is anticipated to affect the harvest of key rabi crop that includes wheat, gram and mustard. Already bleeding from the pain caused by the untimely rain, farmers growing wheat, mustard and fruits like apple and other stone-fruits are likely to be inflicted with further aching.
