Western Disturbance Arrives, Rain - Snow Over Mountains And Plains, Quick Clearance Tomorrow

March 13, 2024 2:51 PM |

Much anticipated western disturbance arrived over Jammu & Kashmir yesterday.  Weather activity has increased today. Clouds have extended to the plains of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. Intensity and spread are likely to increase as the day progresses. The activity will be more over the mountains and sparse and infrequent over the plains.  Snowfall is likely over the elevated areas beyond 10,000 feet.

The western disturbance will lash rain – thundershowers, lightning and possibly hailstorms at a few places over lower areas of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand.  Mid and higher reaches will observe fresh spells of snowfall. Popular destinations like Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Manali, Keylong and Spiti Valley may have snowfall.  Srinagar, Dalhousie, Dharamshala and Shimla may have to contend with decent showers. Lower hills of Uttrakhand like Mussorie and Nainital will also witness scattered thunderstorms and rain. The best part is that weather activity will find an early clearance tomorrow and only a remnant effect will be seen over the higher reaches.

Light to moderate rains and thundershowers will stretch across the foothills of Punjab and Haryana. The farther areas of these two states and parts of north and west Rajasthan will have light rain and showers. Most of the activity will be there in the evening and night. Weather activity will start clearing in the early hours on 14th March and plenty of sunshine will follow during forenoon and afternoon hours. The cool air in the wake of the system will leave a slight nip in the air in the morning hours. The weather activity may not extend, as far, as Delhi. Cloudy sky will prevail in the evening and night. Early clearance in the morning, with typical winter cool, can be expected. Mostly dry weather conditions will prevail over plains of north India for the subsequent one week or so. Some sheet clouds may drift in, intermittently, without any potential of rainfall.
