Fresh western disturbance is arriving tomorrow over northern parts of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. System will be marked as upper air cyclonic circulation in the higher levels. Presently, the disturbance is over Iran and its neighbourhood, marching slowly eastward, across Afghanistan and Pakistan. Influence of the weather system will start late tomorrow and last fairly long. Actually, there will be two such systems in quick succession, moving in tandem, nearly overlapping. Therefore, the weather activity, commencing tomorrow will last till 03rd Dec 2024.
The associated snowfall activity will remain confined to the highly elevated peaks of the mountains, above 12,000 feet above sea level. The lower hills, including Srinagar, Awantipora and Shopian are likely to have very light rainfall between 30th Nov and 02nd Dec 2024. There is an outside chance that the foothill locations like Jammu, Udhampur and Katra may also have partly cloudy skies and brief spells of light fleeting showers. The plains of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi will not have any rainfall during this period.
The approaching systems will change the wind pattern along the foothills of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh. This change will arrest any sharp drop in the mercury levels over the plains of North India, including Delhi. The minimum temperature will hover between 9°-10°C at most places. Mercury may not sink below 10°C in Delhi during this period. The pair of weather systems will clear the region by 04th Dec. The temperatures across the region may dip after the passage, on and after 04th December 2024.
Fog and mist are likely to increase the spread and intensity over the plains during this period. No rainfall is expected over plains till the first week of December. Rather, a fair amount of sunshine will keep the afternoon pleasantly warm. There will be nip in the air in the morning hours but the typical burst of winter chill will be missing.
