At present, most parts of the country are relishing Monsoon and pre- Monsoon rains of varied intensity ranging from moderate to heavy. A few places are also receiving hefty rains. However, Rajasthan is the only state of the nation that is witnessing the mercury rise above the 40°C mark. In fact, the western region of the state is under the influence of heatwave to severe heatwave conditions with boiling temperatures, exceeding 45°C and even reaching 48°C in few places.

During last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Monday, temperature recorded in pockets of Rajasthan which are suffering from heatwave and severe heatwave conditions include:

However, light to moderate dust storm/ thundershowers are likely at some places over Ajmer, Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Bundi, Chittorgarh, Dholpur, Jaipur, Jhalawar, Karauli, Kota, Pratapgarh, Sawai Madhopur and Tonk districts of Rajasthan along with squally average winds of 40 kmph, gusting at 70 kmph during the next 4 to 6 hours.

Primarily, April to May are the months in which heatwave conditions are at its peak in the entire nation. However, from June onward, the southern region experiences pre-Monsoon showers which travel all the way towards the northern part of the country. West Rajasthan is the last part of the country to get covered by Monsoon showers.

The weather of West Rajasthan is also driven by the weather conditions prevailing in the neighboring country across borders especially, Pakistan. Heat keeps on getting advected over Rajasthan from parts of Pakistan, where temperatures generally settle above 40°C.

Heatwave conditions in Rajasthan are likely to last for at least 48 hours. Thereafter, marginal relief is expected in the state. Nevertheless, chances of rain in the state still haven't been t predicted till now.
