The West Coast has been receiving light showers for the past two to three days. Many cities along the coast have been recording rains at least for the last three days. Both Konkan and Goa along with CoastalKarnatakahave been witnessing showers.
These rains can be attributed to the weather system in the form of a feeble trough in the Arabian Sea along the West Coast. This system has also been resulting in westerly winds over the region resulting in an increase in the moisture incursion.
In fact, yesterday, even Bangalore recorded widespread rainfall with the Bangalore observatory recording 7 mm of rain. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Bajpe inMangalorerecorded 14.5 mm of rain, followed by Panambur in Mangalore where 5.8 mm rains were recorded.
Other areas to have received light rainfall includeHonavar3 mm,Panjim0.8 mm, andRatnagiri0.2 mm. Now, these rains are likely to spread further and give some Pre-Monsoon rains over the capital city of Maharashtra, Mumbai as well. Also, the rains over the West Coast may not sustain for a long time and may decrease gradually.
