Episodes of one after the another weather system which has originated over central parts of the country have given fairly widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall over the central parts of the country. However, due to this, the axis of Monsoon trough also remained over the central region of the country.
The eastern end of the trough oscillates periodically over Odisha and at times over the Gangetic West Bengal. This has led to on and off rainfall over the state of West Bengal.
Rainfall recorded during last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday are displayed in the table below:
Additionally, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal has also been receiving light to moderate rains for some time now. Furthermore, it is expected that the axis of the Monsoon trough will move in the northerly direction towards foothills of Himalayas.
By July 15, fairy widespread good showers are also expected to commence over most parts of West Bengal that are likely to last for almost another 4 to 5 days. In fact, as on July 12, Gangetic West Bengal is at present 13 percent less than its normal rains on the contrary, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim is a region which is witnessing rainfall surplus at three percent above than its normal.
As per Skymet Weather, there are possibility of heavy to extremely heavy rains on July 15 or July 16 over foothills i.e. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal.
Districts like Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Cooch Behar and Dinajpur may receive very good rainfall. Moreover, there are possibilities of heavy showers in Nepal as well. Due to these rains, low line areas of the northern districts of West Bengal may also face flood like situations. It is obvious that whenever there are heavy rains in the hilly region of the state, all the rivers and tributaries tend to flow above the danger mark creating flood like havoc.
