March 7, 2020 9:54 AM | Skymet Weather Team

The eastern parts of the country especially Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal have been receiving good rainfall activities for the last two to three days. Rain activities remained slightly less over East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in comparison to West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha. In fact, this is one of the heaviest and longest rainy spell in recent times over eastern parts of the country.

During the last 24 hours also, almost all the eastern states including East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have received good rains and thundershowers. Looking at the records, while Gaya received 5 mm rains, Daltonganj 36 mm, Ranchi 13 mm, Purulia 20 mm, Jamshedpur 24 mm, Burdwan 33 mm and Shanti Niketan recorded 30 mm rains.

We expect these rains to continue today as well. At present, a Trough is extending from Northern Plains to Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Moisture incursion is also taking place from Bay of Bengal in the form of southeasterly humid winds. So, we expect fairly widespread rains and thundershowers to continue until today afternoon over many parts of East India.

By evening, the weather activities will start reducing from Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh. However, scattered rains and thundershowers will continue over West Bengal, parts of Odisha and Jharkhand. Weather will start clearing up by today late night or early morning tomorrow.

By tomorrow, there will be a significant decrease in rain activities. However, isolated patchy rains might continue over West Bengal and parts of Odisha.

Day temperatures have already dropped by three to four degrees over most places. By tomorrow, we expect temperatures to once again start increasing. Day will once again become warm and sunny.
