The weather of Odisha has remained mostly dry during the month of March so far, however isolated rain was observed across the north-coastal regions of the state. At present, Odisha is running rain deficient by about 15%.
On the contrary, the state of West Bengal has witnessed good rains during the last week of February as well as on March 4. That’s why Gangetic West Bengal is largely surplus by 118% and sub-Himalayan West Bengal is deficient by 83%.
A Confluence Zone is expected to develop over Eastern parts of the country and will extend from Madhya Pradesh to Gangetic West Bengal across Jharkhand and Odisha around March 13. Due to this, scattered rains will commence over North Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal by the evening of March 13. Intensity of these rains will increase on March 14, with Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal receiving light to moderate rain and thundershower activities. There is also the possibility of lightning strikes and squally winds at few places.
Light rains are also expected at one or two places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Weather in South Odisha will also remain dry and warm. On and off rains are expected to continue until morning of March 15. Thereafter weather will go dry.
