Well marked low to give good rains over southern parts of Bay Islands

The depression over Thailand and adjoining Malaysia has resulted in some record breaking rains over Malaysia. So much so that the system resulted in heavy rains over Singapore and some flooding conditions over Malaysia on Friday and Saturday resulting in the displacement of over 21 thousand people.

This particular system travelled towards the Bay of Bengal and merged with the system in the Bay. Thus, the merged system shifted from Southeast Bay of Bengal to South Andaman Sea. It is a well marked low pressure area at present and is expected to give some rains over the Bay Islands. However, rain activity will remain confined to South Andaman Sea, that too, Nicobar Islands.

The well marked low is situated quite south in position, in the equatorial latitudes, due to which the activity will remain confined to extreme South Andaman Sea and Nicobar Islands. This system will in the next 48 hours shift south-eastwards, i.e. away from the island.

Good rains are likely in the coming 12 hours, becoming heavier at places. Moderate showers are likely to be seen tomorrow, easing out thereafter as the system will become less marked and shift further.
