Well-marked low pressure weakens into low, more rains in Tamil Nadu, Andhra, Kerala, South Karnataka

The well-marked low-pressure area is over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Tamil Nadu Coast has now weakened into low pressure area and is now marked over Interior Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

The system has given heavy to extremely heavy rains over North coast of Tamil Nadu and adjoining south coastal Andhra Pradesh, particularly over Chennai, Puducherry and Tirupati districts.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Tirupati recorded 110 mm of rain followed by Chennai (Nungambakkam) 94 mm, Chennai (Meenambakkam) 87 mm, Thiruttani 64 mm, Puducherry 57 mm, Nellore 55 mm and Vellore 36 mm.

Further, the low-pressure area will continue to move in west direction. Thus, we expect good rains to continue over North and Interior Tamil Nadu and adjoining south coastal Andhra Pradesh for another 24 hours.

However, on November 23, intensity of these rains will decrease but scattered rains will still continue over parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, South Interior Karnataka and isolated pockets of Rayalaseema.

Spells of rain and thundershower with few heavy spells and strong gusty winds are likely to continue over Ariyalur, Chennai, Coimbatore, Cuddalore, Dharmapuri, Dindigul, Erode, Kancheepuram, Kanniyakumari, Karur, Krishnagiri, Madurai, Nagapattinam, Namakkal, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Salem, Sivaganga, Thanjavur, Theni, The Nilgiris, Thiruvallur, Thiruvarur, Thoothukkudi, Tiruchirappalli, Tirunelveli, Tiruppur, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Viluppuram and Virudhunagar districts of Tamil Nadu during next 24 hours.

Meanwhile in Andhra Pradesh, moderate rain and thundershower activities with strong gusty winds and few heavy spells are likely over Anantapur, Chittoor, East Godavari, Guntur, Krishna, Kurnool, Prakasam, Srikakulam, Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, West Godavari and Y.S.R. during next 24 hours.
