Well Marked low pressure to give flooding rains over Puducherry, Karaikal, Tamil Nadu including Chennai

The well marked low pressure area over West Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh coast has resulted in some moderate to heavy showers over parts of Tamil Nadu as well as southernmost regions of Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Madurai recorded 74 mm of rains, Karaikal 53 mm, Parnagipettai 43 mm, Coimbatore 58 mm, Ooty 60 mm, Valparai 51 mm, Thanjavur 64 mm, Chennai 22 mm, Kavali 28 mm and Nellore 44 mm.

The well marked low pressure area is expected to intensify into a depression in the coming 12 hours and result in some heavy to very heavy showers over many parts of Tamil Nadu along with Puducherry and Karaikal today.

In fact, three digit rains cannot be ruled out over some of these areas today with flooding showers expected in some parts of the region. Some parts of South Coastal Andhra Pradesh may also witness a few spells of heavy rains.

However, the focus of these heavy to very heavy rains will be over Karaikal, Puducherry and many parts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai, Cuddalore etc. Also, the rain belt will move faster ahead to the interiors of Tamil Nadu as well as South Interior Karnataka giving rains over these areas starting tonight.
