Well-marked low pressure to continue giving heavy rains over many southern states

The low-pressure area over Southwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into a well-marked low. Rainfall has intensified over coastal areas of Tamil Nadu. There will be gradual increase of rain activities over interior Tamil Nadu as well. Until 05:30 hours today on November 12, heavy rainfall has occurred over many parts of coastal areas of Tamil Nadu.

Karaikal recorded 107 mm, Cuddalore 87 mm, Minambakkam 52 mm, Madurai and Tiruchirapalli 57 mm each, coimbatore 51 mm and Salem recorded 32 mm. Moderate rain has occurred over south coast of Andhra Pradesh, Tirupathi recorded 33 mm and Kavali 22 mm rain.

Rain activities will intensify over south Andhra Pradesh including Rayalaseema, many parts of Tamil Nadu, parts of South interior Karnataka and Kerala. The well-marked low will once again become a low-pressure area over Tamilnadu and Kerala.

Thereafter, it will cross over to Southeast Arabian Sea and may intensify once again. Rain activities are expected to increase significantly over Lakshadweep. There may be few heavy spells over Lakshadweep during next 24 to 48 hours.
