Well marked low pressure area over Southwest Bay of Bengal (BoB) seems to have gained strength and also inch closer to the coastline of North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Presently, the weather system is centred around 9.8deg North and 83deg East, about 350 km Southeast of Chennai. It is likely to move northwest towards North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Well marked low pressure area is manifested distinctly in the satellite imagery as an organised cluster of convective clouds. Well marked low is likely to align along the coastline of Tamil Nadu in the next 12hours or so. The forward bands of clouds of the system have lashed the coast with heavy showers last night and continue this morning.
Chief amounts of rainfall being : Nungambakkam- 65mm, Meenambakkam-64mm, Puducherry-67mm, Parangipettai-99mm, Karaikal-69mm, Nagapattinam-59mm. Rain and thundershowers continue and unlikely to abate anytime soon.
Heavy to very heavy rains are likely to continue today and tomorrow. Intensity and spread will be large, more so for Karaikal, Puducherry, Cuddalore , Chennai, Nellore, Ongole and Kavali. Flooding rains, disrupting normal services and inundating low lying areas likely during this period. Coastline between Nagapattinam and Chennai will be at risk of inclement and hazardous weather conditions, including high speed winds and lightning strikes.
Weather conditions will marginally improve day after tomorrow when moderate rain and thundershowers are expected over these areas. Along with coastal stations, interior parts of Tamil Nadu, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, southern parts of Rayalaseema and southern parts of Kerala will face the risk of heavy and intermittent rains accompanied with squally weather conditions between 11th and 13th November.
