The well marked low pressure area which formed yesterday has been giving heavy rains over many parts of West Bengal. The system is currently over south Bangladesh and adjoining parts of West Bengal. It will move in in westerly direction across West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar during next two days.
In the last 24 hours, Midnapore has recorded a whopping 230 mm of rains, Canning 186 mm, Diamond Harbour 92 mm, Contai 90 mm. In fact, the capital city of West Bengal, i.e. Kolkata also saw heavy showers of 76 mm.
In fact, even today, Kolkata has already seen 30 mm of rains, taking the total July rain amount to 392 mm, which is also the normal rains for the month of July. There was a weak phase in between in terms of rains but these current rains have helped Kolkata in reaching their monthly normal rain figures.
More rains are expected not only in Kolkata as well as other parts of West Bengal. Thus, Kolkata may even see surplus rains in July.
Talking about Midnapore, heavy rains are expected to continue over the region as well. These showers are expected to see a reduction tomorrow. Southern parts of Gangetic West Bengal including Diamond Harbour, Contai, Canning, Howrah, Hooghly, Midnapore, Kolkata will see heavy showers.
Hilly areas of West Bengal will see lesser rains, and mostly will be spared from the hefty showers.
