Week long wet spell approaching Western Himalayas

Weather of Western Himalayas has gone dry since last one week. However, back-to-back moderate intensity Western Disturbance have given fair amount of rain and snow to Hills of Western Himalayas during second half of March. First week of April also witnessed scattered rain.

This dry spell has led to rise in temperatures. As of now many hilly states have been witnessing above normal maximums. Now, the weather scenario is going to change once again as back-to-back Western Disturbances are going to approach Hills from April 15. Light scattered rain and thunderstorm to commence over Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh from April 16. Rain over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may be isolated. There may be moderate to heavy rain over many parts of Jammu Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh and scattered over Uttarakhand on April 18 and 19. Chances of landslide and mudslides cannot be ruled out during that period.

Intensity of rain may go down from April 20. But scattered rains are expected to continue until April 23rd over the hills. This is the school holiday season. Influx of tourists is high over hilly destinations. There is a word of caution for all the visitors heading for vacation over Hills. They must take adequate precautionary measures during their visit especially between April 17 and 20.
