Weather update and forecast for May 17 across India

The weather system over the country:

A trough in middle tropospheric westerly winds with its axis at 5.8 Km above mean sea level running along longitude 82° east to the north of latitude 25° north.

A cyclonic circulation is over South Haryana and adjoining areas.

The cyclonic circulation over Southwest Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas between 1.5 and 3.1 Km above mean Sea level persists.

A cyclonic circulation is over the central parts of Madhya Pradesh.

A cyclonic circulation is over Assam and adjoining areas. Another cyclonic circulation is over Vidarbha and adjoining areas.

A trough extends from south interior Karnataka to Vidarbha at lower levels.

Circulation is over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Sri Lanka extends up to 4.5 Km above mean Sea level.

A trough extends from the cyclonic circulation over the Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka to Lakshadweep.

The southwest monsoon is expected to advance into the South Andaman Sea, some parts of the Southeast Bay of Bengal and Nicobar Islands around May 19.

A fresh western disturbance will likely affect the Western Himalayan region from May 17.

During the last 24 hours, Light to moderate rain and thundershowers with a few heavy spells occurred over south Tamil Nadu and south Kerala.

Light to moderate rain and thundershowers occurred over Tamil Nadu, Madhya Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, Sikkim, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and East Assam.

Light rain occurred over Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, north Bihar, and at one or places in northeast India, southwest Rajasthan and Uttarakhand.

Yesterday heat wave conditions occurred in isolated pockets of the Gujarat region.

Weather Activity in the next 24 hours:

During the next 24 hours, Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms with a few heavy spells are expected over Telangana, coastal Karnataka, interior Tamil Nadu, Kerala, parts of Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Light to moderate rain may occur over south Chhattisgarh, south Odisha, Tamil Nadu, interior Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.

Light rainfall is possible over northeast India, Vidarbha, Marathwada, South Madhya Maharashtra, and Gujarat.

The weather in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, most parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan may become almost dry, and the temperatures will rise over These areas. Heat wave conditions are possible over Gujarat, Rajasthan parts of Punjab and Haryana.
