During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, scattered light to moderate rains were observed by Gangetic West Bengal and isolated parts of Odisha. Thus, Kolkata recorded 1.4 mm of rain, Canning saw 6 mm and Bankura witnessed traces of rainfall.
At present, a trough is seen originating from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and is reaching up to South Chhattisgarh across Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha. Therefore, we expect light to moderate rain and thundershowers over parts of Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha during the next 24 hours.
Isolated pockets are also expected to witness violent thundershowers with squally winds and lightning and thunderstorm activity.
These pre-monsoon activities are expected to subside after 24 hours. However, isolated rains are likely to continue thereafter as well.
Interior parts of Odisha will be witnessing very hot weather with temperatures settling in the lower 40s. Meanwhile, Coastal Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal will be very warm and humid. Day temperatures will be in the range of 35 to 39 degrees.
However, despite these pre-Monsoon activities, we do not expect any relief from the ongoing hot weather conditions.
