Weather to clear up in plains and Delhi; hills of North India will continue to receive rain

delhiThe Western Disturbance moving across the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir has brought light to good amounts of rain in entire North India. The rain belt was widespread, starting from Jammu and Kashmir to Delhi-NCR.

As predicted by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the system has given snowfall in the glaciers and the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir. Middle and lower reaches of the state received light rain only but Himachal Pradesh witnessed light to moderate rainfall. In Uttarakhand rain was light and isolated.

Here’s a look at the rainfall figures in the hilly states in a span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Tuesday:

rain in J&KWhile Srinagar received only 0.5 mm of rain, the tourist attractions like Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Manali received some descent rainfall.

In view of the system, the minimum temperatures have increased significantly, while maximums have taken a dip in several parts of the region. On Tuesday morning, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of -1.6°C, which is two degrees more than what was recorded on Monday. On Wednesday morning, the temperature jumped above freezing point after a long time and settled at 2.7°C. The maximum temperature in Srinagar settled at 10.9°C on Monday and 8.5°C the next day. Maximum temperature dropped to 8.6°C in Pahalgam on Tuesday.

Obscure sky conditions in the northern plains of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi-NCR also culminated in bringing light rain over the region. Here’s a look at the rainfall figures in the plains of North India in a span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Tuesday:

Weather will clear up soon in the plains and Delhi. However, one or two odd spells cannot be ruled out. Remnants of the system will continue to bring precipitation in the hills at least for next 24 hours. As per Skymet's forecast, an active Western Disturbance will be approaching North India by January 20, which will give a long spell of widespread snow and rain over the region.
