Weather to be rainy during Kaziranga Elephant Festival

The Elephant Festival held in the Kaziranga National Park of Assam, is aimed at the conservation and protection of Asiatic elephants. This festival is a joint initiative taken every year by the Forest Department and Tourism Department of Assam. During this occasion, hundreds of Asiatic elephants are groomed to perfection from head to toe to participate in parade, races and dance programs.

The week-long festival in the month of February attracts a large number of tourists across the world that come to witness the awesome procession of elephants. The view of elephants cat walking before captivated spectators is a moment to cherish for many. This festival aims at increasing eco-tourism and resolving man-elephant conflict.

Weather during Kaziranga Elephant Festival

The festival falls at a perfect time of the Valentine week from the 11th to the 17th of February. The beautiful national park in the Golaghat and Nagaon districts of the state of Assam is a World Heritage Site. You can spend a good time with your partner in this park which boasts of possessing two-thirds of the world's great one-horned rhinoceroses, a good tiger population and migratory birds. The entire state of Assam has been receiving rain and the intensity is expected to increase from 15th of February as the Western Disturbance starts affecting weather in Northeast India. This rainy weather is expected to continue till the 17th and is surely going to make your visit unforgettable and splendid. At present maximum temperatures are near 29⁰C but they may drop by 3 to 5 degrees due to rain.

Fauna of Kaziranga

Famous as a biodiversity hotspot, the national park is situated on the edge of the Eastern Himalayas and has achieved outstanding success in conserving wildlife. Kaziranga was declared as a Tiger Reserve in 2006. It also boasts of providing shelter to swamp deer, wild water buffaloes and a large population of elephants. Kaziranga has also been given the tag of an ‘Important Bird Area’ by Birdlife International for conservation of avifaunal species.
