Weather in Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Nagpur to remain dry; irrigation of vegetables advisable

The weather of Maharashtra has remained dry for the last four to five days. Despite this, the temperatures across parts of the state have witnessed a drop.

The temperatures in Maharashtra that were running significantly above normal have curtailed marginally leading to the abatement of heatwave conditions from some parts of Vidarbha region. However, isolated pockets of Vidarbha are still reeling under heatwave like conditions with temperatures reaching up to 44 degrees Celsius.

On Sunday, Brahmapuri recorded the maximum temperature at 44.3ºC, making it the hottest city of the country for the day. Followed by its adjoining Chandrapur with the maximums settling at 44.2ºC, Nagpur and Akola both recorded the maximum temperatures at 42.5ºC each.

As far as Marathwada, Konkan, and Madhya Maharashtra regions are concerned, the maximums have dropped to settle near the normal levels in most parts. Thus, they are below the 40-degree mark. Meanwhile, minimums were seen running below normal by one to three degrees.

During the aforementioned time frame, Nashik recorded the maximum temperature at 38ºC, Kolhapur 38.8ºC, Pune 38.1ºC, Mumbai 36.1ºC, Dahanu, Mahabaleshwar, and Alibag recorded the daytime high at 34ºC each.

As of now also, Skymet Weather does not foresee any significant weather system affecting the state. In the wake of this, the weather of the state is anticipated to remain dry. The maximum temperatures would continue to remain near normal.

In the wake of dry weather, farmers are advised to continue harvesting matured crops. Farmers should irrigate vegetables. As isolated pockets of Vidarbha are still reeling under heatwave like conditions, farmers are advised to harvest matured summer sunflower. Also, farmers should apply mulch to preserve soil moisture.
