Vaishno Devi has been witnessing rain and thundershower activities from the past few days, leading to chilly weather. These rains can be attributed to the passage of active Western Disturbance which is prevailing over Jammu and Kashmir.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, another Western Disturbance is following and would start affecting the Western Himalayas during the next 24 hours. In wake of these back to back weather systems, rain and thundershower activities will continue to lash Jammu and Kashmir including Katra and Vaishno Devi Dham during the next 48 hours.
The intensity of showers will be light to moderate but few intense showers may also occur. However, after 24 hours, the rain intensity will reduce marginally. In view of these weather activities, it is advisable for the pilgrims to avoid the plans, if they are heading out to seek the blessings of the famous goddess.
For those, who are already on their way to the shrine, must brace for extremely cold weather conditions. Devotees must carry woolens to keep themselves warm.

In wake of ongoing rains, the temperatures have also fallen significantly and are settling below 10°C. It is anticipated that cold day conditions will prevail and the chilly winds would blow. The winter chill is likely to intensify and hence, Vaishno Devi Dham should be avoided at this point of time in terms of travel.
In wake of hefty rain and snowfall activity in other parts of Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu-Kashmir highway has also been shut. However, there are fewer chances of snowfall activity in Vaishno Devi temple but top reaches may witness light snowfall activity. The sky conditions will continue to remain mainly overcast.
