Weather in Plains likely to turn dry, night temperatures to fall

February 7, 2014 1:41 PM |

Northwest and Indo-Gangetic plains have been receiving rain and cloudy weather for the last two days but with the eastward movement of Western Disturbance and weakening of its associated cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan, the weather in these regions could turn dry.

In the last 24 hours, almost all the places in Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh have recorded light rain. Hisar in Haryana recorded 1.5 mm of rain while Amritsar and Chandigarh in Punjab recorded 4 and 5 mm of rain respectively. Patiala recorded 9.8 mm of rain, the highest in Punjab. Churu, Jaipur and Kota in Rajasthan also witnessed light rain during this period. According to latest update, after receiving 1.3 mm of rain on Thursady night, Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh continues to witness rain and cloudy sky on Friday.

At the moment, moisture laden winds are blowing  from the southeast direction in the plains. However, wind conditions will change to become northerly to northwesterly, reducing the minimum temperatures in the plains due to its cold and dry nature.

Night temperatures in these parts have been recording in double digits for the last two days and our meteorologist suggests that minimums may fall significantly in the plains and settle around single digits once again during the next two days.

Day temperatures in the northwest plains have been settling in the mid-twenties and it is expected that with the clearance of the Western Disturbance, skies will become clear to increase the day temperatures once again in the northwest and Indo-Gangetic plains. Day temperatures could even settle in the late twenties as there isn't any weather system in sight for the next two days.
