Maximum temperatures which were maintaining around 27 to 28 degrees till last week, have recorded a gradual and considerable drop of about 3 to 4 degrees (on an average) in the last 48 hours.
On Monday evening, the maximum temperature recorded in Ludhiana was 22.5⁰C, Patiala-22.7⁰C and Amritsar - 23⁰C. Maximums in parts of Haryana looked like this: Karnal- 23⁰C, Narnaul- 22⁰C, Hisar- 25⁰C and Ambala – 21.7⁰C.
Other than parts of Punjab and Haryana which have witnessed a significant drop in temperatures, weather in Delhi is also witnessing somewhat similar conditions. Till a few days back maximums in Delhi were hovering around 27⁰C but yesterday it recorded 25.3⁰C.
“Mercury levels have started to drop as we are approaching mid-December. Persistent northwesterly winds from the hills of Jammu and Kashmir and the position of the sun having moved towards the south is making the days colder than before”, explains a senior meteorologist at Skymetweather.com
“As a result of the above mentioned developments the sun isn’t so sharp anymore and the days have started to become much shorter”, he added further.
Early mornings and nights have also become slightly colder in North India with minimums dipping marginally. Hisar in Haryana recorded 5.7⁰C as the minimum temperature on Tuesday morning as opposed to 7⁰C on Monday. Minimums in Amritsar have been settling around 6⁰C for the last two days. In Delhi the minimums have been a little comfortable at around 9⁰C.
