High maximum temperature and even higher levels of humidity are making days uncomfortable for the Mumbaikars. In the last few days, people of Mumbai have been reeling under hot and humid weather conditions.
The day temperature in the city has been settling in mid 30s, sometimes even reaching up to higher 30s. On Tuesday, Mumbai recorded 34.1°C as the maximum temperature, against the monthly average of 33.3°C.
However, it's not the high day temperatures alone that are responsible for the discomfort. Even though, they are settling 1-2 degrees Celsius above normal, increased humidity in past few days, especially during noon hours, has been the main contributor to the uncomfortable weather in the city.
The only likely relief is from evenings and nights as strong sea breeze during the later half of day makes inclement weather, bearable.
According to Skymet, brief respite is expected after 24 to 48 hours as the city may witness some thunderstorm activity.
Mumbai has not witnessed any weather activity in this month, so far, which is typical of the weather during May. This can be understood from the fact that the monthly average rainfall for the city is just 12.5 mm. And out of the last eight years, the city has recorded traces of rain in six of them. While the remaining two years have recorded less than 1 mm of rain.
May, October and November are considered to be the hottest months for Mumbai. However, weather in October and November is still better than May as humidity levels are comparatively low.
