Weather in Delhi

The weather in Delhi this month has been dry so far. The last spell of rain that the city had observed was on January 26. Since then there hasn’t been a drop of rain in the city despite February being the rainiest winter month.

If we look at the temperature profile of the city in the last few days, the day temperature has been settling close to the normal average of 23°C. For instance the Safdarjung Observatory saw the day temperature settle at 24.3°C on Tuesday, while on Monday the maximum had settled even higher at 25.5°C.

The temperatures in Delhi start increasing by February, particularly from the second week. And by the middle of the week there is a rapid increase in both day and night temperatures, which is the case right now.

Weather in Kolkata

Kolkatans are really having a tough time in terms of warm weather conditions. Since January 4, when the city observed 46 mm of rain, a ten-year record of 24 hour rainfall, the city has been dry. The skies have also been clear leading to temperatures rising and settling above normal in the city.

It is natural for the temperatures to rise in the month of February as winter is on its way out but looking at the data available with Skymet, the day temperatures are settling above normal. For example the maximum temperature recorded 28.8°C on Tuesday, which is close to the normal average. A few days back on January 4, the day temperature in the city had settled at 31.5°C, which is almost 3 degrees above the monthly average.

The second half of February becomes even warmer. However, towards the third week of the month some thunderstorms are expected in the city, which might bring some relief to the people of the Kolkata.

Weather in Mumbai

Day temperatures have been soaring in Mumbai for the last one week, making the weather in the city highly uncomfortable. Since January 30, when the maximum had settled at 33.9°C the day temperature in the city has been on a rising trend and is recording in the mid-thirties.

On Tuesday the city saw the maximum temperature settle at 34°C, which is 3 degrees above the normal average. The minimum too settled 2 degrees above the normal at 18 degrees Celsius.

The reason behind the rise in temperature is the warm land winds which begin to affect the city from 10 pm and last till the afternoon hours. The sea winds which are usually cooler sets in late, around 2 pm by then the maximums have recorded their highest level.

As we enter further in to the month of February, the temperatures will rise gradually therefore we do not expect much change in the weather condition of the city for the entire month. Moreover the humidity is expected to rise which will make the weather more uncomfortable.

Weather in Chennai

Rain has completely withdrawn from the city leading to rise in temperatures. According to the data available with Skymet the maximum temperature in the city is settling in the lower thirties. The winds are easterlies from the sea, therefore the humidity is also high.

However, by the second half of the month we can expect some thunderstorm activity, particularly when some trough or easterly winds affect the weather.
