Weather in Delhi to remain cold and dry

February 11, 2014 4:58 PM | Skymet Weather Team

With the eastward movement of the Western Disturbance over Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, the weather in Delhi will continue to remain cold and dry for the next 48 hours. The minimum temperature in Delhi increased a little on Tuesday but our meteorologists believe that with a clear sky, winds will continue to blow from the north direction which will keep minimums in single digits, at least for the next three days.

Delhi recorded 5.6°C as the minimum temperature on Tuesday morning, about five notches below normal after registering 4.6°C on Monday which was the third coldest February morning in last ten years. The coldest morning in Delhi during the last ten year was recorded on 2nd February, 2008 at 2.9°C. The maximum temperature in Delhi on Monday also rose to 20°C, three notches below the normal. It was marginally better than 19.4°C recorded on Sunday, almost 4°C below the normal.

Another spell of cloud and rain in Delhi is expected on Friday and Saturday during which night temperatures will rise to bring relief from the chilly nights while, maximums will again drop below normal to keep the daytime cold but not dry due to the presence of southerly winds.

The change in the weather in Delhi, expected by the weekend is due to the approach of a fresh Western Disturbance over the Western Himalayan region. The weather system is likely to influence the weather in North India from the night of 13th February.
