There’s good news for all those who have been waiting for the weather in Delhi to turn colder. After a significant drop of four degrees in just one day, minimums are likely to drop further in the capital, making the weather in Delhi and NCR icy cold on Christmas and the coming days.

Delhiites woke up to a cold morning on Tuesday, with minimum recording 8.5⁰C as opposed to 12.5⁰C on Monday. “The weather in Jammu and Kashmir has a direct impact on the climate in Delhi and North India. When it snows in the Kashmir valley, the minimum temperatures in Delhi and adjoining plains do not witness any drop. But the moment is stops snowing and the weather clears up in the hills, minimums in the plains experience a sharp decline, as witnessed on Tuesday morning”, explained a senior meteorologist at Skymetweather.com

“Since the drop in the mercury levels in Delhi have already been quite substantial, a further drop will be slightly restricted. Mornings minimums could drop by 1 to 2 degrees and hover around 7⁰C this week”, he added.

Further, ‘cold day’ conditions and a dense fog cover in the last few days have made the weather in Delhi quite uncomfortable. From 21stDecember onwards, maximums in Delhi have significantly been staying below normal, at around 17⁰C. On 22nd December, Delhi recorded the lowest maximum temperature of the season, at 15.9⁰C at the Safdarjung station, which was 6 degrees below the normal average.

“As we explained, after snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir has stopped, skies have become clear in the plains, afternoons are already bright and sunny and the maximums are showing signs of a rise. On Monday morning maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 18.4⁰C, a rise of one degree from Sunday (17⁰C), though still three degrees below the normal average. Maximums in Delhi this week will hover around the twenties”, said our meteorologist.

Therefore, the weather in Delhi during the Christmas week will be freezing cold and bonfires will be a common sight. Heavy woolens which were stacked up until now wiltone brought out.
