Till April 25, Delhi has recorded 13 mm of rain which is exactly the same as the monthly average for the national capital.

Meanwhile, day maximums have also been rising simultaneously, with the day maximums settling in the range of 35°C to 38°C. There were also some occasions when mercury had reached 39°C, but there have been two occasions in the month, including today when day maximums settled above 40°C.

Following table shows the amount of rainfall recorded in the month of April during the recent years as well as the number occasions when maximum temperatures surpassed 40-degree mark.

The above figure shows that 2018 has some resemblance to the year of 2012 and 2013, wherein also there had been only one occasion when day maximum had reached 40°C and rains were also in double digit.

In fact, in the past 10 years, 2012 was the only year that has not recorded day maximum above 40°C during the entire month of April.

Today, the day temperatures have crossed 40-degree mark.  As per the Palam Observatory, the maximum temperature of the day has been recorded to the whopping 43.1°C, meanwhile, the Safdarjung Observatory also recorded the maximum at 41.6°C. Thus, the maximums recorded by both the observatories today are the highest of the season.

Now also, similar weather conditions are expected to follow for the next 24 hours. Thereafter, mercury would take a dip again on Friday on account of change in wind pattern.

According to Skymet Weather, dry and hot northwesterly winds would be replaced with humid southeasterly that would lead to drop in mercury on April 26. Not only this, there are chances of pre-Monsoon activities such as thunderstorms and dust storms on April 27 that may further plunge the mercury.

These activities would be during the late evening hours of Friday and early morning of Saturday. Thereafter, the weather will clear up but under its influence day temperatures would not rise. Thus, by the time, mercury starts rising, we would have entered May.
