August 27, 2023 3:22 PM | Skymet Weather Team

August rainfall in Delhi until now is less than 50%. Delhi has recorded around 93 mm of rain whereas the normal rainfall of August is 226.8 mm. Rainfall in the month of July was above average. That is why the total rain between June 1 and August 26 for Delhi is surplus by 8%. Until now, Delhi has recorded 450.9 mm of rain against the normal of 415.8 mm.

The future forecast for the national capital is not very encouraging as we expect dry weather conditions to continue over Delhi and NCR for at least the next 8 to 10 days. Dry winds from the west and southwest will continue over Delhi leading to some relief from the ongoing sultry weather conditions. The day temperature may increase by one or two degrees. Day will be very warm. However, moderate winds may give some relief.

Northwest India also has a rain surplus of 8%. There may be light rain with one or two moderate spells over the Western Himalayas. However, we do not expect any significant weather activity over Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, or Rajasthan during next week. The surplus of 8% will gradually reduce. August 2023 has been witnessing one of the longest dry spells after 2002. Apart from the masses, the farming community will be the most impacted as their crops are on the verge of collapse.
