January 21, 2014 4:57 PM |

A look at the weather forecast for India for the entire week:

North India - The week will be foggy and rainy in North India. Fog will be widespread in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan and rain would start from mid-week onwards in both the plains and the hills. Fog in Delhi will be dense for the first two days of the week but it will be moderate with dense in pockets in adjoining states. With slight relief for just about a day or two in between, fog will continue for the entire week in the plains. Rain in the plains could start to occur from Tuesday night onwards, lasting for 24 to 36 hours. Rain, clouds and a thick fog cover will significantly bring down the maximums (17-19⁰C) leading to cold day like conditions. Up in the hills, there could be another spell of widespread snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from the 21st to the 23rd of January. Weather will turn dry afterwards.

East and Northeast India - Weather in East India will also be foggy this week. While clouds and rain will be seen up till central Uttar Pradesh, widespread moderate to dense fog will engulf Bihar, Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Northeast India. Fog could be dense in places like Patna, Gaya, Siliguri, Assam, Tripura and Meghalaya. The rain belt from the North will shift towards Uttar Pradesh and rain will commence from 21st till the 23rd of January. As a result, skies will be overcast and cold day conditions (maximums below 16⁰C) could be witnessed at west Uttar Pradesh. Rain is a slight possibility at Jharkhand as well. Maximums will maintain between 18 to 21⁰C in most major cities of East India. Minimums will not be so cold, between 9 to 11⁰C throughout the week.

Central India - Just like in North and East India, weather in Central India will be rainy for the first half of the week. Rain could occur in almost entire Madhya Pradesh till Wednesday onwards, with light to moderate showers at many places. Light rain could occur in parts of Gujarat on the 20th and 21st of the January. Fog could be widespread and dense in north Madhya Pradesh with visibility dropping below 100 meters in parts of Guna and Gwalior. Maximum temperatures could witness a significant drop of about 2 to 4 degrees in Madhya Pradesh due to a thick cloud and fog cover and settle between 17 to 19⁰C. Odisha in Central India will be quite warm (28 to 29⁰C) unlike its other neighbouring states.

South India - Weather in South India will be dry and hot yet again. Day temperatures will be the highest in Kerala and coastal Karnataka, due to warm and dry land winds. Here the maximums will settle between 32 to 34⁰C, touching 35⁰C at times. The only activity throughout the week in terms of rain will be witnessed at south coastal Tamil Nadu and south coastal Maharashtra on the second or third day of the week. Strong moisture laden northeasterly winds from the Bay of Bengal will give isolated light rain at Pamban and nearby districts of south coastal Tamil Nadu. Rain in Maharashtra will be due to a feeble trough along the coast of the state. Days will be hot but the nights will be pleasant and breezy in entire Peninsular India this week, with minimums between 17 to 23⁰C.
