North India is likely to receive its first winter rain by the end of this week. This will be followed by fog, which has been missing from the region for quite some time. Down south, scattered rain is expected throughout the week.
Here’s a detailed look at the weather forecast for the week across the country:
Weather in North India
The previous week was absolutely dry for North India in terms of weather. The skies were clear, temperatures were recording above normal and fog, a common phenomenon during this time had been missing. However, this week we expect some good weather activity in entire North India.
To begin with, a cyclonic circulation is expected over Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday which it is likely to shift over Himachal Pradesh and Haryana Wednesday. But the system is not expected to give any weather in the region.
Meanwhile, the semi-permanent anti cyclonic circulation in north Rajasthan and Gujarat will shift to parts of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. The cyclonic circulation will then become more marked and start giving rain in parts of North India from the night of December 12. Rainfall is expected to increase in intensity and become more widespread by December 13-14. The hilly states of North India, north Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, west Uttar Pradesh and Delhi will be the main regions to receive rain.
The first good snowfall of the season will also be observed in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh during this time.
Weather in Central India
There isn’t any weather activity expected in Central India during the first half of the week. The second half will however, observe some light scattered rain in parts of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
The temperatures during this period are likely to remain above normal, with the cold wave conditions abating completely.
East and Northeast India
These two regions have been the center of weather activity for the last couple of weeks. Dense fog has often engulfed east Uttar Pradesh, Particularly Gorakhpur and its adjoining areas. Shallow to thick fog has also been observed in Agartala, Imphal and Guwahati in the northeast and parts of Bihar on a number of occasions. Cold wave conditions were also prevalent in the region a few days back.
But the situation is likely to improve this week, giving the people some reprieve in the form of some sunshine. The second will particular observe much better weather conditions. However, we can still expect shallow fog during late night or early morning hours.
Weather in South India
Light scattered rain in Tamil Nadu was observed on Sunday, which is going to last the entire week. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, there will be gradual increase in intensity of rain by Monday evening over coastal parts of Tamil Nadu and adjoining Kerala.
Good rain is also expected over entire Kerala, interiors of Tamil Nadu and South Interior Karnataka in next 24 hours.
