May 5, 2014 4:30 PM |

According to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the weather in India could be rainy at many places this week: Here’s a weather forecast for the entire week

North India – After a week of prolonged dust storm activity, the weather in North India will now become dry. However, this will happen after another spell of dust storm affects northern plains on Monday. From Tuesday onwards, both the plains and the hills will not witness any weather activity. This dry spell may last till the end of the week, pushing the maximum temperatures to mid-forties. The last day of the week or the first day of the next week may again experience short spells of dust storms in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, north Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh.

East and Northeast India – Weather in East India will be rainy along the foothills of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh as a result of a cyclonic circulation near Bihar. Rain due to this system will continue to occur, during the later part of the day, till the mid-week. Temperatures will rise to settle above 40⁰C, in the absence of rain. Weather in Northeast will be wet and cloudy throughout the week, reducing the diurnal variation (the difference between the max and min). Rain in the Northeast will be more in Assam Valley and Meghalaya.

Central India – The weather in Central India will be hot and dry with maximums settling in the mid-forties till the middle of the week. The clouding effects of the cyclonic circulation near Sri Lanka, which is expected to give rain in South India this week, could reach up to Central India. As a result weather in Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra will be cloudy from the 8th of May onwards and rain could occur from the 9th or the 10th of May. Clouding and rain may therefore lead to a marginal drop in day temperatures of Central India.

South India – Extensive rainfall is the forecast for South India this week. A strong circulation near Sri Lanka which could possibly turn into a low pressure system, will give rain at various places in South India, including the interiors. After giving good amounts of rain with isolated heavy showers in between, the weather system may gain latitude on the 7th of May, move towards Lakshadweep and give rain along the Karnataka coast from the 8th of May onwards. As we mentioned earlier, this weather system is also likely to make the weather cloudy and rainy in parts of Central India this week. Parts of Mumbai may also get rain from this cyclonic circulation. Rain in South India may pull down temperatures to early thirties or high twenties this week.
