Barring parts of east and northeast India, monsoon is not very active in the country right now. Here’s a look at the weather forecast for the week in India:
North India: The week started off on a dry note in north India with rain reducing to become nil. Winds also changed to dry westerlies, pulling down humidity levels significantly. Without much change, this trend is expected to continue for the entire week in north India. Temperatures are expected to remain in the higher thirties, i.e. in the range of 34 to 37 degrees Celsius on an average. West Rajasthan will be the hottest in India with some places touching 40 degrees. However, a feeble western disturbance is expected to give isolated light rain, by the mid of the week, in many parts of north India including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, north Punjab, north Haryana and Delhi. The weather will remain dry, windy, sunny and warm for the remaining part of the week.
East and Northeast India: Heavy rain of above 50mm in many parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar on Monday and Tuesday, added to the serious flood situation in east India. The situation is expected to improve by Wednesday as rain will decrease drastically over the region. However, as the monsoon trough line has shifted entirely to the foothills of Himalayas, moderate rain with heavy in pockets is expected to occur in north Bihar and north Bengal till Sunday. A cyclonic circulation near Orissa is expected to give rain in the state from Thursday onwards. On the other hand, continuous rain has improved the rain deficit in Northeast from -43% to -33%. These figures will improve further as rain is expected to continue till the end of the week. And as rain continues, temperatures in entire east and northeast India is expected to remain marginally below normal.
Central India: After major floods and excessive rain, entire central India is facing dry days. Weather forecasts show no rain for most parts of Madhya Pradesh and Vidharbha. The only chances of rain may appear towards Thursday and Friday, when due to a system forming near Orissa, Chhattisgarh and parts of west M.P could receive light rain. Gujarat is expected to have dry weather this entire week. As the weather remains mostly dry, temperatures will remain 3 to 4 degrees above normal, on an average, in entire central India including M.P, Vidharbha, Marathwada, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat. Light rain after Thursday will pull down temperatures only marginally, bringing no major relief from the hot weather here.
South India: Scanty rain situation improved in south India as a wind discontinuity extending from Rayalseema to Tamil Nadu, brought rain in many parts. This system may weaken by the mid of the week and in its place a new system, i.e. a trough extending from Orissa to Tamil Nadu, may give widespread light to moderate rain at coastal Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka on Thursday. Rain belt may gradually cover entire east coast of peninsular India. The west coast of south India may also observe a temporary rise in the rainfall figures due to fresh monsoon surge. Mumbai may receive moderate rain on Wednesday night or Thursday morning. Bangalore could receive moderate rain of up to 30mm over the weekend. Temperatures in entire south India may remain marginally above normal till the mid of the week as rain thereafter will pull down temperatures.
