North India: Last week of August may bring some good news for north and north west India that is witnessing high temperatures. Light to moderate scattered rain is predicted from 29th onwards in J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, north Punjab, Haryana, west Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. East Rajasthan has been receiving continuous rain for the last few days which may increase again from the 29th and continue till the end of the week. Temperatures in almost entire north and northwest India could drop by 2 to 3 degrees because of rain activity. Maximums in Delhi may drop from 36 to 33degree Celsius. On the other hand, west Rajasthan will be the hottest and the driest place with Jaisalmer and Barmer touching 40 degrees. South Punjab too will remain extremely dry this week.
East and Northeast India: Good news lies ahead for rain deficit states of Bihar, Jharkhand and Northeast India. There are possibilities of moderate rain along the foothills of Himalayas, sub Himalayan West Bengal, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand as the monsoon trough seems to be moving along the area. Rainfall may start in the region by Tuesday and continue for 72hrs. Light scattered rain may occur over east Uttar Pradesh on the 28th and 29th of August. Orissa too would get rain on the 28th due to a strong cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal. Meanwhile, northeastern states like Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam may receive moderate to heavy rain this week.
Central India: Entire central India is facing flood like situation this week with Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha receiving excess rainfall of more than 100%. And the situation does not look to get any better as more rain is predicted over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Marathwada from 28th August. These spells of heavy rain will be due to a strong system forming in the Bay of Bengal. Temperature in entire central India will continue to remain way below the normal average of the month.
South India: It will be another week of scanty rain for almost entire south India except Telangana and Andhra coast where the system in the Bay of Bengal may give moderate to heavy rain between 20 to 40mm. This rain may start from Tuesday onwards and continue for 3 days. Tamil Nadu will be dry and hot this week with maximum temperature touching 37 degrees. The west coast of Peninsular India may have moderate rain only at Konkan and Goa. The interiors of south India will be mainly dry with partly cloudy skies and moderate sea breeze.
