Let’s see how the week unfolds ‘weather - wise’ for the country
North India- The week proved to be a rainy one for the people of North India with the capital city witnessing the highest showers of the season at 70mm. Hot and humid days followed afterwards. Humid and mainly dry weather may continue for Delhi till Saturday but Sunday may see some change as some good amount of rain may lash the city once again. On one hand where continuous rain is adding on to more trouble in the already devastated state of Uttarakhand, there are no signs of rainy weather for Rajasthan as it is still the hottest and the driest in the entire country.
East and Northeast India – Light rain continues in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Northeast India will witness light to moderate rain throughout the week with the heaviest spell (116mm) so far at Imphal. West Bengal also recorded heavy spells at many places (Jalpaiguri-90mm). Rain is expected to reduce and become light to moderate over gangetic and sub Himalayan West Bengal and northeast India and increase over west U.P on Sunday as the cyclonic circulation over central India may soon curve towards the foothills of Himalayas.
Central India- After a week of nearly dry days, central India may witness heavy showers once again. Rain will be moderate to heavy at many parts of south Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Temperatures which were in the range of early thirties and late twenties may now drop by 5 to 6 degrees. Gujarat however could get moderate rain over the weekend in the east and southwestern parts as the trough oscillates.
South India – Hot and sultry Andhra Pradesh has already recorded moderate rain at many locations in the last 24hrs and more rain may continue in Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, west Godavari, Krishna and various other districts of Andhra Pradesh today. The rain situation may soon change to mainly dry days as the cyclonic circulation from the Bay of Bengal could turn towards central India and then gradually towards the foothills of Himalayas in east India. The interiors of south of India will receive little rain and the rain shadow area, Tamil Nadu will reel under hot weather. The west coast of India which recorded heavy rain at many pockets of Kerala and Maharashtra will also witness reduced rains over the weekend. Rain over Mumbai will only be up to 15mm.
